He has a knee injury that may be bad and has not had any luck rehabing, nor has surgery even been scheduled yet. On top of that he may not academically qualify. The gray shirt offer was the best thing for Alabama and him.

Yeah pretty much the same thing happened to the RB Taylor from Georgia. he had injured his knee and was rehabing it though. I think it sucks for these guys. I am sure being offered a scholarship, then commiting and getting told you will have to gray shirt a year sucks but these teams fill key need first and they bring the best players, those who they feel are the most ready first and then gray shirt the others. Correct me if i am wrong but they can gray shirt and still participate on scout team and during fall camp pretty much like a walk on because they have no scholly yet. It suck but it happens luckily both guys this year went to good schools. Philon to Arkansas and Taylor to Kentucky. Both had been commits for a while Taylor know about the gray shirt a little earlier than Philon i belive, the pickup of Korren Kirven landed philon the gray shirt.

NARCAS is a rating that TF does. I think it is an acronym but I don't know what. I think of it as something like the SPARQ but without actually seeing the player live & in person.

Did you see the video? I think that is exactly what happened. The kids coach said we came to him mid January and asked if he would consider a grayshirt and he said no and the coaches said he could be a part of the 2012 class. Two days ago they came to him and said they were grayshirting him. Kid was torn up and confused. Even today he still wanted to play at Alabama, but felt he had been treated wrong. Very sad and I do not like it either.

According to CNS in his Wednesday interview, the gray shirt has been eliminated. Can anyone comment on what happened to Philon? I understand the numbers of 25 signing under 2012 and 1 backcounter for 2011.

Philon was committed to the Barn and we flipped him some time ago. I hope that he decommitted on his own and we didn't pull the offer on signing day. CNS even made a comment on some guys wanting to sign with us but there wasn't room.

I want the best class as everyone, but I really hope we didn't mislead a kid. I have been teaching for 18 years, so I am very concerned in doing the right thing by kids. This is their future. Does anyone know anything concerning this issue.

What a haul. I would have loved to have kept Gladney, but I don't think he can qualify so it would have been a wasted scholarship. I hope Taylor made the best decision for him. We are loaded with top notch backs, but I think he could have been up there with the others if he was healthy. I also hope Philon chooses the gray shirt because I think he is much better than the 3 star ranking he has. We are getting greedy and beginning to expect these #1 finishes. If we ever drop out of the top five we are going to meltdown.

Gladney still has work to do in the classroom so not a huge loss there. Taylor probably made a good decision for him . I really hate that we lost Philon, but understand him taking the full ride if he choses to go to the Hogs.

Are you kidding? This is the biggest recruit we have sign since Julio. So what if his mom is upset. The NCAA says Saban did nothing wrong. The kid has no baggage. He is a good kid.
